Reading Outside of the Classroom in College

In one of my classes this past week, we finished a 400 page novel, and many of the students were curious about the sequel to it. The professor told us the name of the novel, and encouraged us to read it when we had the chance, but when saying this, the professor said that it wasn't normal that any of us would just pick up another 400 page novel to read for pleasure.

I was kind of baffled by that because I read all the time. I haven't been able to read as much as I'd like to over the semesters, but I am able to read quite a few books that aren't assigned for classes. I have read three 400+ page books this semester, and I read quite a few last semester, too.

I guess this leaves me with a question. Does everyone else just put reading aside until summer vacation or do you try to find the time to read during the semester?

  1. I would like to read more throughout the semester besides just for class but with work and school that doesn't usually happen for me. Sometimes I can squeeze a shorter book in but usually the most I can read is a few chapters. Most of my leisurely reading takes place during breaks or in the summer.
